Ever since I was little I liked homemade ice cream. My grandmother used to make the best vanila and strawberry ice cream. But unfortunatelly I’m not a good cook. I am not handy in the kitchen. Years ago I heared about ice cream makers and isntantly I got the idea to replicate my grandmother’s recipe. The process was horrible. It required a lot of attention, a lot of time and adding a lot of ice in the process. The result was “something” with a horrible texture nothing like my grandmothers ice cream.
Recently I got the chance to try out the Cuisinart ICE-21 and I fell inlove with it. I bought it. I am a huge coffee lover so one of my first ice creams that I made was coffee ice cream. Lets get straight to the Healthy Homemade Coffee Ice Cream Recipe.

Healthy Homemade Coffee Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup of granulated white sugar
- 1.5 tablespoons of instant coffee
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2.5 teaspoons of vanilla extract
Instructions
-
Freeze the bowl that comes with the ice cream maker
Instead of adding ice in the process of making the ice cream, the Cuisinart ICE-21 has a double insulated freezer bowl. No ice needed. You just need to keep it in the freezer for some time. (From the manual: 6 to 22 hours)
-
Mix Up Ingredients and Chill
In a mixing bowl, mix together 1 cup of milk and 3/4 cup of sugar. Mix until the sugar is dissolved and then add the instant coffee, vanilla extract, and heavy cream. Keep mixing till everything is mixed together. Place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
-
Make the Ice Cream
Take the insulated bowl out of the freezer and place on the stand of the ice cream maker. Put the mixing arm inside the bowl and then cover with the easy lock lid. Once the lid is secured, turn on the ice cream maker. Take the mixing bowl out of the fridge and pour slowly into the ice cream maker.
Let the ice cream maker run for about 20-30 minutes. Once the texture looks good, stop it. Transfer the ice cream to another container. Make sure the container is cold so that it doesn't melt your ice cream.
-
Put the Ice Cream in the Freezer (optional)
The ice cream will be soft at the end of the 20-30 minute cycle. If this your preferred texture of ice cream then it is ready to serve. However, I preferred the taste and texture after it had been in the freezer for another two hours.
-
Serve and enjoy
Recipe Notes
How to make it more creamy!
If you prefer an ice cream that is softer and more creamy, add a small amount of either vodka or rum to the mix.
